Choosing the Right Numbing Cream

Having powerful ingredients, good quality over-the-counter or prescription strength numbing creams minimize pain so that a person undergoing a surgical procedure does not experience extreme discomfort. On a fundamental level, numbing creams are topical anesthetics that help reduce painful skin sensations during procedures such as waxing, laser skin resurfacing, body piercing and tattooing.

Most numbing creams have Lidocaine, Benzocaine and Tetracaine as their main ingredients. When you need a numbing cream, don’t just go by what TV, radio or online adverts say.  

High price and quick numbing effects are not necessarily the only factors to be considered when choosing a numbing cream. To get the best product, look for type of ingredients, formulation and safety.

Make sure -  

1. Your numbing cream has Lidocaine, the strongest known numbing agent, as its chief  constituent
2. Always choose a cream according to the intensity of pain involved in a procedure.
3.   If it’s insect bites and sunburns that are bothering you, you can just go for a Tetracaine based cream. But, for other painful procedures, you can go for a much powerful and effective numbing product like Dr Numb.
4.   To reduce mild pain like itching, a Benzocaine based numbing cream would do just fine.
5.    An over-the-counter cream can be just as good as a prescription strength product.
6.    Lidocaine-based product (Dr Numb, for example) is the best numbing cream/spray to help reduce pain during waxing, piercing, tattooing etc.
